I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.

You ever felt stuck? Like in those movies where the character keeps waking up on the same day over and over and over? Like life is controlling you instead of you controlling life?
This whole 2021 high key felt like that to me. We are now in November and I swear it feels like February. How I made it through every day this year baffles me, but here I am, in November of 2021. This year has definitely been a test of the saying ‘if there’s a will, there’s a way’ because I promise you I barely remember what happened, except I graduated TWICE this year. How I made it to and through graduation and on to almost the end of the year can all be attributed to the Nike slogan #JustDoIt.
I saw a post on Instagram this morning that truly moved me.
So much of who I thought I was foundationally changed this year I barely recognize myself. Similar to the post above, I’ve been moving through some deep reflection and it’s been hard gathering all the pieces that fell apart this year. Everything is scattered and blurry and what keeps coming up for me is gratitude.
I am grateful that I made it through my toughest storm and toughest battles so far in life. I’m grateful that I am supported and loved and cared for in a way that sustains me through those hard times. I’m grateful that I’ve noticed the changes within myself even if I can’t name the when and what specifically. I asked for healing and release and I promise you I ain’t the same lady I was on January 1st. It’s like I woke up this morning with amnesia and have to start my life anew.
What hit me in my chest and brought me to you all today is the reality that life is what you make it and you make a life by living it. We can plan and plan all we want, but life is about action. Life is about putting your best foot forward and seeing where it takes you. Life is about being present enough to enjoy the moment when it happened, just in case you do forget and can’t recall from your memories. Life is about honoring the person you are today and the needs you have today! Each day, you’ll be tested to see who you really are, what would you really do, what would you really say at every turn. Each day is an example of who you are and what you want to become.
If you aren’t happy with today’s you, you have two choices- change it or keep it. You can be miserable and continue in the same way or you can switch shit up and practice what you dream to reach. When your foundation is rocked you have a clear and present opportunity to rebuild the pillars of your life- what motivates you, what habits you want, what end you are moving to. Unlearning is somewhat difficult because every day you have to remind yourself who and what you are and who and what you want to be, especially if those things are different.
Choose what chooses you. Let your heart guide you. Listen to that inner voice that’s giving new directions. Talk to your support systems and spirit guides and listen for an answer. I survived 2021 so far by just doing it, just waking up and getting from the beginning of the day to the end of the day. Just pick a few to do’s and get them done. So far, I’ve finished poetry collection number 2 and am almost halfway done with a novel I’ve been planning for over 5 years. Just do it. And then reflect. Reflect on whether it is what you want to be doing, how it made you feel, what foundation it’s setting for your future. Each day will get easier and each day you’ll get closer to your dreams. I promise, I’m living it and can barely remember it.
