I really don’t think life is about the I-could-have-beens. Life is only about the I-tried-to-do. I don’t mind the failure but I can’t imagine that I’d forgive myself if I didn’t try.
– Nikki Giovanni
We lost a beautiful life full of creativity, love, and talent today. Randomly. Out of nowhere; just gone. We all have been smacked and shaken by the sudden loss of so many influential people in our lives and in honor of Mental Health Month I’m using the space I created to do what I need- release and heal. I created this blog to help me get through these hard times and be a resource for others who may experience something similar.
I’m feeling all the things right now. With finals 2 days away and back to back my mind is telling me I don’t have time to grieve. It’s telling me I can’t waste the little energy I have on loss, I must press on. This is in line with society at the moment, because as people are dying around us we all are supposed to be living life “business as usual.” Many of us fail to realize that business as usual was killing you before and is expediting the process now. Denying your body the needed release, the needed pause, the needed pampering ruins the one life you have to live.
Life is lived in the present. We’ve come to understand that anxiety is worrying about the future, and depression is worrying about the past. We live in the here and now, and if that moment is miserable, on a regular basis, what kind of life are you living? Who are you living it for? Who is the main character in your life story? If it ain’t you, we have a problem and only you can solve it. We have been tricked into drinking the kool-aid and giving up our lives for a fictional dream that is driving everyone up the wall, but we can do something about it.
Take your life back! You have the power to live out YOUR dream, however YOU picture it. Releasing judgment and befriending your fear will take you higher than any plane. The king we lost today was committed to himself. He was committed to his dream, his talent, his goals, his LIFE! He knew what he deserved and went after it. When you do what you love everyday life is in your face, more than you could ever imagine, a full-on blessing. There is joy around every corner and love in every action. You attract abundance in friendship, in time, in energy, and even in material gain. We have the power to mold our one life into exactly what we want it to be. We just have to trust. Trust ourselves, our decisions, our hopes, and our dreams. Trust that they will take us exactly where we want and need to go. Trust that everything happens for your good and will eventually lead you to exactly what you need to be. You already have everything you need to succeed.
We have to lead by example. We have to show the world that our light is worth shining. We have to believe in ourselves so that when it’s our turn to inspire we step up to the plate. Kendall “Evin Knots” Taylor believed so much in himself it rubbed off on those around him. He kept moving and kept trusting and kept smiling. We are blessed to have experienced such dedication and heart. It’s now our turn to be the light for those that come after us. We only have one shot. What are you gonna do with it?
